An investigation into rural food poverty and insecurity was carried out by ACRE a 75 year old charitable organisation providing support for rural communities in Northamptonshire, during November 2020. The report raises the issues of rural poverty often forgotten as people assume that rural communities are affluent. ACRE Trustee, Miranda Wixon was involved in the Christmas Meals project and approached Food4Heroes to see how we could work together to deliver freshly prepared meals throughout the second lockdown. We approached Northamptonshire based private chef, Danny Tompkins who supported us with meals for the NHS. Danny immediately responded and agreed to take on the challenge. The result was over 2500 tasty meals served over a 6 week period lasting until the schools re-opened.
